To write the opening to a persuasive letter

In this lesson, we will write the opening paragraph to our persuasive letter. We will use our plan from Lesson 4 to help us.

Lesson Link:

To write the opening to a persuasive letter (thenational.academy)

Task

To write the opening to your letter. Remember you are not writing the whole letter.  I am looking for at least 2 paragraphs.  (at least quarter of an A4 page of handwritten writing or 100 words).

Make sure to include:

  1. An opening phrase
  2. Formal language and formal conjunctions
  3. Use persuasive techniques such as flattery and presumption.

Mild

Use the WAGOLL on the video and add some of your own words.

Spicy

Challenge yourself to only use the WAGOLL on the video as a guide.  Can you use your own ideas in your opening to the letter.

Hot

Your opening should look very different to the opening in the video.  I want you to show your own style whilst still using the features.  Make sure to include persuasive features and relative clauses.

Science

This will be a difficult lesson to replicate at home unless you happen to have practice bulbs, crocodile clips and batteries.

However, there is a really good BBC teach video that I have added to support this.

Conductors and insulators | Physics - Live Lessons

Suitable for teaching 9-11s. A Live Lesson clip exploring which unusual materials and objects are electrical conductors and which are electrical insulators. ...

I will add the work sheets if you are able to get resources.  If you contact me it is possible that I can try to arrange for you to borrow some of the school resources.
