This week we will be starting a short reading unit for English which will take us up to half term. In this lesson Mr Byrne-Smith will introduce us to the text 'There is a boy in the girls' bathroom' by Louis Sacher. It's a really lovely and funny text and this unit will allow us to practice our predicting skills as well as finding information from a text and the trickier, making inferences using evidence from the text.
The task for today will be slightly different as Mr Byrne-Smith doesn't introduce this task like Ms Webster did for The Jabberwocky. I would like you to stop the lesson when Mr Byrne-Smith is discussing the front cover. Pause just as he is about to move on to the next slide. Can you write me a prediction about what this book is going to be about based on the front cover? You will need to start your paragraph with 'I predict that this book is going to be about.....I think this because...'
Mild - can you give me one prediction and provide reasoning for your answer.
Spicy - can you give me two predictions written in a paragraph, remember to justify your answer.
Hot - can you provide me with multiple reasons as to what you think this book will be about. Remember I don't want you to give me a list, I would like you to write a paragraph providing reasoning for each one, just like what we would do in class.
