Hello everyone we have put together lots of fun activities for you all to do. We will be uploading different activities each week. These will be uploaded on Sunday evening ready for you to start on Monday. Once you have completed an activity we would love it if you could take a picture of the work and email it to either mabbott@mvps.org.uk or apaige@mvps.org.uk so that we can share it on our class blog, www.mvpsyear2.edublogs.org

English

We will be looking at Grace Darling who was the daughter of a lighthouse keeper. Here are some fantastic links to help you learn more about her https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p015gmjd http://www.gracedarling.co.uk/ and we have uploaded a PowerPoint about her at the bottom of the page.

Reading – Can you try and read the PowerPoint about Grace Darling? If you get stuck it’s absolutely fine to ask for help. Try to remember the information you read as it will help you with your writing task.

Writing – for your writing task this week we would like you to research Grace Darling and write 5 facts that you have found out about her. Remember your neat handwriting.

SPaG – for your SPaG task this week, after you’ve researched Grace Darling could you write down anymore questions you have about her. Remember what piece of punctuation you need to use at the end of a question.

Maths

For our maths learning we will be using this link https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-2/. Once you are on the website this is how to access the learning and activities.

  1. Click on week one.
  2. Watch the short video clip
  3. Click on ‘get the activity’ on the right hand side.
  4. Once the activity is completed you can ‘get the answers’.

These activities can be printed out from the website or you can just write them out on a piece of paper. There are 5 lessons for this week and activities to go with all of them. We have already learnt about fractions in school so this should be a great chance to revise what we have already learnt.

Topic

Science – In science we were beginning to look at plants and for this week can you look at the different parts of a plant using this website and the PowerPoint that we have uploaded below? https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zpxnyrd/articles/z3wpsbk. Then can you draw a plant, colour and label the different parts.

Art – Because we are looking at Grace Darling and thinking about lighthouses and the ocean. Could you draw a lighthouse and its surroundings? Think carefully about what colours you might want to use. What colour is our lighthouse on the hoe?

Music – Continuing with our topic of thinking about the ocean could you learn a sea shanty? Sailors sing these songs to help them keep in time with each other when doing jobs that involve pushing or pulling. Have a go at learning this sea shanty called Santianna. We have uploaded the music and song words below.
