Week 7 – Home learning.

Reading – Can you read this poem called Marina the mermaid?
Writing – We are thinking about mermaids this week. Can you answer the questions below focussing on the size of your letters? Remembering your tall and short letters. You may need to do some research using the internet.
SPaG – Can you watch the story ‘Can you catch a mermaid?’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l79TaxPfWBE. Then can you write 5 sentences about what you have read using the correct punctuation and spellings. Will it be sea or see, hear or here, their or there?
Geography/History – Can you have a look at the document below about our own Smeatons Tower. Once you have read the information can you answer the questions that are asked on the last two pages of the document?

PSHE – This week we would like you to think about the things that make you an amazing person. We have attached a document below that gives you lots of reasons why you might be amazing. If you don’t have a printer you can write out your own reasons.

Just a reminder as Mrs Ryder has stated in the weekly newsletter there will be no activities uploaded next week due to half term.
Writing – This week we are going to be thinking about lighthouses and what it means to be a lighthouse keeper. Think about all the different jobs you’d need to do and use the writing you did last week to think about how you would feel doing them.
SPaG – Because we are thinking about diary entries this week, we are going to look at past and present tense. We have uploaded a document below to remind you of lots of different words in past and present tense. Can you then change these words from present to past and write them in a sentence?

Reading – Underneath we have uploaded two reading comprehensions. One called by the seaside and the other about great white sharks. Can you have a go at these?
Geography – Here is a list of 15 famous lighthouses around the world https://listsurge.com/top-15-famous-lighthouses-world/. Can you find out more information about where in the world they are? You could use google maps or the internet to research them. How far away from Plymouth are they? Are they in the UK or are they somewhere else in the world?
Science/DT – After thinking about what materials you would use to build a lighthouse last week, could you try and build a model of a lighthouse. This could be made of anything toilet rolls, kitchen roll, bottles, any junk you have around the house! Have fun with it.

PSHE – This week we would like you to think about the things that you are grateful for so we have uploaded a document below called the Bubbles of Gratitude. As you colour in the bubbles, think about different things that you are grateful for, it could be small or big. You could write these things in the bubbles. If you don’t have a printer, have a go at drawing your own bubbles.

White Rose Maths has changed this week. We are very lucky as a school and have a premium membership so we can carry on using this fantastic resource. The videos will still be available on the white rose maths website but the worksheets will now be uploaded here.
Writing – This week we are going to be thinking about lighthouses and what it means to be a lighthouse keeper. SPaG – This week we will be thinking about adverbs. Remember these are words that describe the verb, we have attached a document at the bottom to help remind you. Could you write 5 sentences with different adverbs in them? You might want to underline the adverb that you have used.
Reading – Underneath we have uploaded a lighthouse related reading comprehension, there are two challenges once spicy and one hot please choose the one you are comfortable with. We have uploaded both the questions and the answers.
History – Can you look at the history of lighthouses? There is also lots of information about lighthouses in the reading task this week. Once you have done your research can you write your top 5 facts about lighthouses?
Art – This week we will be thinking about a local artist from Plymouth called Brian Pollard. You can find out more about him here https://www.brianpollard.co.uk/biography.htm. Could you have a go at recreating this famous picture of the Hoe?
Science – Can you think about what materials would be good to build a lighthouse with? Could you use wood, plastic, glass? If not why not?

Don’t forget that this Friday is a bank holiday in order to celebrate VE day.
Writing – Imagine that you were alive on VE day. Could you write about the celebrations that may have happened where you lived? It could be a street party, creating decorations, having a picnic with your neighbours. Think about how you would feel on that incredible day. If you’d like to know more about VE day we’ve attached a document at the bottom.
SPaG – We will be thinking about homophones underneath this we have attached a document with lots of different homophones in. Remember homophones are words that sound the same but are spelt differently. Could you pick your favourite 5 and write them in your own sentences for example: Late at night I heard the owls hooting. The white knight fought bravely in battle.
Reading – Underneath we have uploaded a VE day reading comprehension. These are differentiated with one star being the easier and three stars being the hardest. Feel free to choose the one you feel comfortable with.
History – Can you look at the VE day document below to learn more information about VE day. After reading this you could try and create some VE day bunting to decorate your house, on Friday you could have a VE day celebration lunch, you could draw a VE day themed picture or if you have a printer you can try the VE day word search.
PSHE – This week we are thinking about our emotions. We have attached below a template for a calming down dice and an emotions board game. If you have a printer you could print these off or don’t panic if you don’t you could create and draw your own version to help us think about our emotions and understand them more.
P.E – Our P.E challenge for you this week is to do some cosmic kids yoga. Have a go at this This week we’re suggesting this star wars video but you can pick your own if you’d prefer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=coC0eUSm-pc.

Writing – This week we will be thinking about using adjectives that end is ‘ful’ and ‘less’ here are some examples.
Could you please write sentences using these adjectives about Grace Darling and the rescue of the people on the Forfarshire. Here’s some examples – The ship was useless once it had hit the rocks. Grace was hopeful that she’d reach the ship wreck in time
SPaG – Could you write some sentences using adverbs? We have uploaded a document at the bottom explaining adverbs and you can also visit this website https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zwwp8mn/articles/zgsgxfr. These sentences can be about whatever you would like to write about. Can you underline the adverb that you have used.
Reading – Underneath we have uploaded two reading activities to complete about pirates. These are called Stowaway Stefan and A Pirates Life for Me.
R.E – The month of Ramadan started this week. Can you use the document below to research Ramadan and write down 5 things that you learn about the celebration?
Art – Can you use the document below to look at Vincent Van Gogh. Notice how he drew sunflowers like you did last week? Can you try having a go at recreating his picture ‘Starry Night’. Don’t worry if you don’t have oil pastels in your house, try using whatever you have at home.

PSHE – This week could you try and create a ‘things to look forward to’ jar. We have uploaded some instructions below but you can create this anyway you would like using a bottle, jar, bowl, tub anything you have in the house. We would like you to build this so that you can have a moment thinking about all of the fantastic things you’re going to do when this is over.

At the bottom of this we have uploaded some documents called ‘SATs survival guides.’ These are just there because they are full of great activities if you finish the tasks for this week and would like some extra.
On Thursday Comic Relief and Children in Need are hosting ‘The Big Night In’ where they are raising money for the NHS. We are asking the children to either dress up as hero for the day or you can draw or write a message about/to your hero! We’d love it if you could email pictures of your hero related activities. If you would like to make a donation you can do so through the following link https://www.comicrelief.com/big-night-in/ but please remember that a donation is entirely voluntary.
Writing – When Grace Darling lived on her lighthouse the only way of contacting people on land would be via a message in a bottle. Could you write a message in a bottle from Grace Darling? What do you think she would say? Would she tell everyone about all the people she saved? Here is an example of how Charlie Clark is writing his message in a bottle. You could even put it in a bottle once you have finished.
SPaG – Could you write some sentences about Grace Darling using subordinating conjunctions. Remember they are ‘because, when, if, that’. Here’s an example Grace Darling had to be brave because she needed to save the people out at sea.
Reading – Underneath we have uploaded a St George’s Day reading activities to complete. They are differentiated one star being the easiest and three stars being the hardest. Please feel free to select whichever one you would like.
Science – for science we will continue to look at plants, could you look at the lifecycle of a sunflower and what it needs to survive. We’ve uploaded a PowerPoint at the bottom of the page and you can use this link https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zcn9j6f.
Art – could you draw a sunflower? Think about all of the little details on a sunflower and what colours you need to use.

Home learning – Week 1
Hello everyone we have put together lots of fun activities for you all to do. We will be uploading different activities each week. These will be uploaded on Sunday evening ready for you to start on Monday. Reading – Can you try and read the PowerPoint about Grace Darling? If you get stuck it’s absolutely fine to ask for help. Try to remember the information you read as it will help you with your writing task.
Writing – for your writing task this week we would like you to research Grace Darling and write 5 facts that you have found out about her. Remember your neat handwriting.
SPaG – for your SPaG task this week, after you’ve researched Grace Darling could you write down anymore questions you have about her. Remember what piece of punctuation you need to use at the end of a question.

These activities can be printed out from the website or you can just write them out on a piece of paper. There are 5 lessons for this week and activities to go with all of them. We have already learnt about fractions in school so this should be a great chance to revise what we have already learnt.
Science – In science we were beginning to look at plants and for this week can you look at the different parts of a plant using this website and the PowerPoint that we have uploaded below? https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zpxnyrd/articles/z3wpsbk. Then can you draw a plant, colour and label the different parts.
Art – Because we are looking at Grace Darling and thinking about lighthouses and the ocean. Could you draw a lighthouse and its surroundings? Think carefully about what colours you might want to use. What colour is our lighthouse on the hoe?
Music – Continuing with our topic of thinking about the ocean could you learn a sea shanty? Sailors sing these songs to help them keep in time with each other when doing jobs that involve pushing or pulling. Have a go at learning this sea shanty called Santianna. We have uploaded the music and song words below.
